www.seeyourhotel.com is a new take on the use of Google maps. This website allows you to pick a country, city, state, and you can search for hotels in the area that you are going to be staying in. The sites design and layout are very easy on the eyes. The site is very quick, and the Google map rendering is extremely quick. I searched a large list of countries, and I couldn’t find a country that didn’t at least have one hotel. This was true for even really remote locations that most people don’t even travel to. The site makes use of Google pin feature that once clicked brings up a nice bubble with the information on the hotel you have chosen. It gives you the option of booking the hotel, and seeing how many stars its rated. One really great feature of the site is the fact that once you bring up the hotel and then click the hotel name, a very large text box shows up. This text box has a complete description of the hotel, and what it offers. You will also find the address, and phone number of the hotel along with check in and out times. They’ve also included pictures of the hotel so you can see if it’s something that you are going to be interested in it. You are also able to see what kinds of tourist attractions are near the hotel, which makes planning vacation trips very easy.

I’ve yet to see a travel site that uses Google maps the way this does, and I think it’s a really great idea.

Echo Trips is a Oregon River Rafting company that specializes in guided rafting tours of Oregon’s Rogue River and Idahos’ Middle Fork of the Salmon River. The website is very well laid out and easy on the eyes making it really easy to navigate. One of the things I like about the site is the guide bios that allow you to learn a little bit about the people you we be on your trip with. Included in the bio are pictures, stories, and their experience.

The trip I checked out was the Salmon Supreme which is $1395/person

Some of the things included in the price of the trip:

All meals are provided for you

Comfy camping chairs

Tents (if you didn’t bring your own)

Transportation to and from the river

Sleeping bags

Water proof bags to keep all of your personal stuff dry

For each trip, is a nice PDF of the overview of the trip. Everything is nicely laid out so you can see what is included, and a lot of other information. They even tell you what you should wear, and items that you should bring on the trip. This is all laid out in a checklist format making it easy to go through the list before you leave to make sure everything is accounted for. They also included the average temperature during the night and day during the times of the year the tours run. This gives you some idea of what you’re going to be experiencing weather wise. They’ve also taken the time to layout a set of words used in the pdf. If you’re unfamiliar with a term like “polypropylene” or unsure of what “layering system” means they have it all written out for you. This way people who have never done this sort of thing can learn a little bit about what these things are. It makes it so much easier to do this kind of activity when you know what things mean.

I’m highly impressed with the professionalism Echo Trips takes in their business. This would be a great trip to take to get away from the day to day grind of life and leave the business suit in the closet, and put on a swim suit and have some fun.
